Education Policy Research Intern
We will be accepting applications for our Summer/ Fall 2025 research internships through March 15, 2025. Please see below for more information about the internships and how to apply.
The Thomas B. Fordham Institute, based in Washington, D.C., provides several research internships throughout the year. They involve diverse and meaningful responsibilities, including:
- Research. The Fordham Institute's primary topics of interest are high standards and accountability systems; charter schools and school choice; curriculum and pedagogy; teacher quality; application of technology; and more. We seek interns with experience and interest in the education field who can perform high-quality research and write clearly and convincingly. Research tasks include assisting with Fordham's national research studies and policy briefs, as well as smaller day-to-day projects. Quantitative and research methods experience a plus, but not required.
- Commentary. The Fordham Institute is devoted to reforming K–12 education, and one of the main ways in which we do this is through our ongoing commentary. These outlets include the weekly publication of an influential national magazine, The Education Gadfly; a lively, interactive website and blog; a weekly podcast show; and the publication of opinion pieces in various national publications. Research interns frequently have the opportunity to contribute to these various media.
- Events and administrative duties. In addition to the above responsibilities, interns will help plan, coordinate, and staff multiple in-person events and webinars, including coordinating monthly in-office work days and additional external events. Interns will also occasionally manage mail, answer e-mail queries, field phone calls, and handle other miscellaneous office duties.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will be self-starters with a deep interest in education, a Master’s or Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, strong writing skills, and proficiency in major Microsoft Office applications. Prior research, education, and/ or events planning experience a plus.
The internship will run from late May/ early June through the end of 2025. All research internships are DC-based, full-time positions (Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 6:00 pm) and the position pays $25.00 per hour. The role is hybrid, with a combination of on-site and remote work. Interns must be available to attend and help staff in-person DC events and office days.
The Thomas B. Fordham Institute is an equal opportunity employer. Please browse our website for more information about our organization.
